Martin Wilson School Governing Body Impact Statement

The role of the Martin Wilson School’s Governing Body is to ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils at the school. The Governing Body is an important and intrinsic part of the schools leadership team and we are committed in setting the highest possible standards for both pupils and staff.  The Governing Body seeks to continually review and improve its own performance.  This impact statement is one of the methods by which we assess our contribution and impact and communicate this information to you.

Governor Link Visits

Governors undertake a series of programmed visits to the school.  These visits improve Governors’ understanding of issues within the school and help to ensure that the priorities and actions included in the School Development Plan are appropriate.  They also allow Governors to monitor the implementation of the Plan at first-hand.  This knowledge has allowed the Governing Body to help focus resources in key areas and improve the quality of teaching and learning across the school.

Policy Review

The Governing Body has a set programme of review for all school policies.  These reviews have ensured that all policies are appropriate and, where relevant, compliant with the school’s statutory duties.  This ensures that the school adopts best-practice in all areas and is particularly important in ensuring the safeguarding of all members of the school community.

Health & safety, Premises and Maintenance

Issues concerning buildings and maintenance are regularly monitored by Governors. This includes an annual Health & Safety audit via a site “walkabout” by the Headteacher and a Governor. This has ensured that the school continues to provide a safe environment for all members of the school community.
